Queer Book Recommendations

While we should be reading LGBTQIA+ novels and authors all year long, June is a wonderful time to load up your TBR with Queer representation! These are some of my favorite books by Queer authors and featuring Queer story lines that I've read this year!

The Story of the Hundred Promises is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast featuring Queer and Trans characters. Neil Cochrane's beautiful prose and whimsical setting make this a story you won't want to put down!

The Song of Achilles is a retelling of the relationship between the famed Achilles and his friend and partner Patroclus. Madeline Miller weaves a tragically beautiful story with powerful poetry. Get your tissues ready!

If you can't tell by the cover, Payback's A Witch is a book with Bi representation! Emmy Harlow returns to her magical home town for a spellcasting tournament between feuding magical families. This is a quick, fun, romantic read perfect for any season!

Honey Girl is the story of the very practical protagonist, Morgan, making a very impractical decision and gettng married to a strange woman in Vegas. What follows is a story of self discovery, facing your fears, and accepting the person you were always meant to be.

This delightful graphic novel answers the question, "What if fairy tales were written with queer characters?" I literally couldn't put this book down once I picked it up. Each story is full of whimsy, heart, and so much fun!

All Boys Aren't Blue is an eloquent memoir of George M. Johnson's experience growing up Black and Queer. The book covers identity (gender and sexuality), prejudices, rascism, and the struggles he experiences to this day. The book is heartbreakingly honest, and infinately inspiring.

For fans of Bridgerton, A Lady For A Duke is a sweeping queer historical romance where sparks fly between childhood friends after a life changing separation. I love Bridgerton and I loved this book! Every bit as delicate in romance as it is overwhelmingly thematic.

Last but not least, The Prince and the Dressmaker is the sweetest little graphic novel all about what it means to fully embrace yourself. This story filled me with all of the warm and fuzzy vibes of a fairy tale while imbuing the message that the only person you need to worry about pleasing is yourself!
