Happy New Year, book lovers!
2023 was a great year of reading for us. Cherish read 46 books and Lacy read 34 books! We whittled our reading list down to our favorite five books (each!) of 2023 and are excited to share them with you now!
Cherish's Top 5 Books of 2023
This year Cherish revisited one of her favorite authors, Kate Morton for her latest historical fiction. She continued on with one of her favorite series by Elly Griffiths, the Ruth Galloway mysteries. She found a new favorite series in Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club. And she spent a good portion of the year reading Greek mythology retellings!
Lacy's Top 5 Books of 2023
All of Lacy's favorite books this year were from new (to her!) authors! 2023 was the year of cozy fantasy. She fell in love with a family of witches who own a bed and breakfast in In the Company of Witches, a young toadling protecting the world from a princess in a tower in Thorn Hedge, a whimsical, modern reimagining of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Meg Shaffer's The Wishing Game, and an eclectic group of women competing in a reality dating show in Patricia Wants to Cuddle. Lacy is also not the biggest fan of audiobooks, but she listened to The Unmaking of June Farrow in the final weeks of December and it wound up being one of her favorite books of 2023... Maybe of all time! The narrator does a wonderful job of embodying each character with a subtle, charming Nashville drawl.
Every year, Cherish sets a reading goal of 52 books for the year. Lacy sets a reading goal that matches the age she will turn in December, so this year her goal is 35 books! You can follow Cherish on GoodReads and Lacy on StoryGraph if you'd like to join us on our reading journeys!
